Program
IHPA is holding its Activity Based Funding Conference for 2021 from Wednesday 5 to Friday 7 May 2021 as a virtual event.
Over the course of the three-day program, delegates will have the opportunity to access a range of resources and connect online with leading professionals, utilising virtual networking features such as group networking sessions, an interactive Q&A session focused on an introduction to activity based funding, and the ability to book one-on-one virtual meetings through the platform.
Over the course of its three half-days, the program includes:

- plenary sessions
- panel discussions
- concurrent smaller presentations
- unique online social program.

KeynoteReimagining payment models to improve costs and care Dr Ezekiel J. Emanuel, Vice Provost, Global Initiatives, Diane v.S. Levy and Robert M. Levy University Professor, Co-Director, Healthcare Transformation Institute, University of Pennsylvania, Professor, Health Care Management, Professor, Medical Ethics and Health Policy, Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Dr Emanuel will cover a variety of promising alternative payment structures, including primary care capitation, surgery and specialty care bundles, salaries for certain medical specialties, and restructured end-of-life care payments. He will discuss evidence from his experience working with major United States insurers on innovative payment model re-designs and share his insights on the future direction of alternate payment schemes. Panel sessionClinical perspectives on activity based funding This session aims to give the clinicians' view of the challenges of working in an activity based funding environment including how they use activity based funding tools to drive improvement in their services. Panellists will also discuss what the impact of the introduction of safety and quality funding adjustments has been for their service by covering sentinel events, hospital acquired complications and avoidable readmissions.

KeynoteDelivering value, improving outcomes in a post-COVID world Dr Sally Lewis, National Clinical Lead, Value-Based and Prudent Healthcare NHS Wales / Honorary Professor, Swansea School of Medicine Dr Lewis will look at the many ways in which we can increase value across healthcare systems through approaches to improving outcomes that really matter to patients, and how we can apply value-based principles to a local context. She will explore how data can support value-based decision-making, focusing on technology requirements and the use of patient-reported outcomes.
